To fly like a bird, is one of the oldest dreams of human - to discover the world by travelling is one of the most exciting experiences. What can be better than to connect flying with travelling to a dreamlike experience?
Among the different stations on our tour were some of most exciting places in the world. Besides, our aim was not to arrive at the various locations alone but equally important to fly the routes between our destinations. These routes led us across vast deserts, everlasting ice regions, bizarre mountain formations, deep green rainforests, lonely coral reefs, smoking volcanoes and infinite oceans. The start of our tour was on Thursday, 8th of April, 2010 on the AERO exhibition in Friedrichshafen and ended on Friday, 20th of August, 2010 at the same location. Over 220 flying hours, more than 60,000 km and the visit of 18 countries in 5 continents under sometimes adventurous basic conditions were really demanding for us. However, we would not like to miss one single minute of our 134-day trip around the globe. Initially we were looking for a great experience – what we have been given then, became the once in our lifetime travel experience. On this website we would like to take you along on this trip once again. We give insights into the necessary preparation work for the project ´Round-the-World´, information regarding aircraft and equipment as well as route selection. Further, many useful tips and addresses may also be found. And of course we have regularly noted our impressions and experiences during our trip. All our descriptions have been produced at the point in time of that particular project phase not knowing about the outcome of our project. Our motto ´Single Hand, Single Engine, Single Trip´: The piloting challenge of this trip was that one pilot flew a single engine sports aircraft around the world in one ongoing turn. Of course not on a non-stop mission – but in a continuous trip with many stops. However, even though the piloting was done by one person, this travel adventure could only be successfully carried out by an outstanding cockpit teamwork and the kind help of so many people on the ground.
On the web side www.earthrounders.com all ´earthrounders´ are internationally tracked in a sequential chronology since 1924. According to this source we are worldwide the 166. earth rounding team in a single engine sports airplane and 29. from Germany. Despite all planning and careful preparation work, unfortunately such a journey has no guarantee for success like on a booked travel arrangement. Negative political impacts, serious technical trouble, health problems or severe weather may endanger such a project. However, one day we didn’t want to accuse ourselves because at least we didn’t give it a try ... and we succeeded!!! |
